Presidential Seal

Seal of the President of the United States.

This beautiful 15 high relief seal dates from the administration of President Jimmy Carter.  All of its features, including the lettering, stars, eagle, clouds, olive branch, arrows, and the lines and dots in the glory, are fully three dimensional.

The seal is made of molded resin.  It has a hanger on the back.

We understand that this seal was a sample produced by a company bidding on the contract to manufacture seals for the White House.  This seal was left over when another company obtained the contract.

The presidential seal took this form on the orders of President Harry S. Truman.  Before Truman took office, the eagle faced the left talon, looking toward the arrows, and the seal lacked the circle of stars.  By Executive Order 9646, issued October 25, 1945, Truman turned the eagles head toward the right talon, the direction of honor, to face the olive branch, the traditional symbol of peace.  He also added the stars, which now number 50 for the states in the union.

This near-mint condition seal is an uncommon and highly desirable artifact.  It would be beautiful in a display, particularly alongside presidential autographs.
